How to Clean Silicone Sex Toys Properly
Proper cleaning maintains toy safety and longevity.
Daily Cleaning (Soap & Water)
After use: Wash with mild soap and warm water. Scrub gently with soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Air dry.
Why: Removes fluids, dust, lube residue.
Deep Cleaning (Boiling)
Non-motorised toys only: Boil for 10 minutes to sterilise.
Never boil: Anything with electronics, batteries, or metal components (can damage).
Process: Boil in clean pot, remove carefully, air dry completely.
When: Before first use, after sharing, occasionally for sterilisation.
Dishwasher (Top Rack)
Yes, safe: Top rack, no detergent (detergent can degrade), gentle cycle.
Easier than boiling for many.
What Degrades Silicone
Silicone lube: Breaks down silicone over time. Use water-based only.
Sunlight/heat: Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Extreme cold: Doesn't damage but makes toys brittle temporarily.
Storage
Cool, dry place: Away from heat and sunlight.
Separate from other materials: Silicone can absorb dyes from other materials.
Bag storage: Optional but keeps dust off.
Verdict
Soap and water daily. Boil occasionally. Never use silicone lube. Replace when degrading (5+ years typical lifespan).
