Stainless steel sex toys occupy a specific position in the market: more expensive than silicone, more durable, and with a set of properties that make them the best material choice for certain uses. Here's a complete guide to the material and what to expect from it.
Why Stainless Steel
Medical-grade stainless steel (typically 316L surgical steel) is:
Non-porous — bacteria cannot penetrate the surface. Steel toys can be sterilised completely with soap and water, dishwasher, boiling, or disinfectant. For anal use in particular, this is a significant advantage.
Hypoallergenic — medical-grade steel contains no nickel in accessible form and doesn't react with skin chemistry. Reactions to genuine surgical steel are extremely rare.
Permanent — steel doesn't degrade, crack, or change texture over time. A well-made steel toy will last indefinitely.
Temperature-capable — like glass, steel retains and conducts temperature well. Warming or cooling a steel toy before use creates a lasting temperature sensation during play.

The Weight Factor
This deserves direct attention because it's so different from silicone and glass. A steel dildo of average size might weigh 300–600g or more. A steel butt plug that would be barely noticeable in silicone is felt constantly in steel due to gravity acting on its weight.
