Curved Dildos: Why Curve Matters and How to Choose

Curve is one of the most functionally important features of a dildo and one of the hardest to evaluate from a product image or listing. Here's a clear guide to what different curve configurations do and how to choose one that matches your intended use.

Why Curve Matters

Straight dildos work for general penetrative use. But internal anatomy isn't straight — the vaginal canal runs at an angle, the G-spot is on the anterior wall, the prostate is anterior within the rectum. A toy designed to target any of these specific structures needs a curve to direct pressure in the right direction.

Getting the curve right means a toy can contact the target area with minimal effort; getting it wrong means the toy passes near the target but doesn't stimulate it effectively.

G-Spot Curve

Cervical Avoidance Curve

Some people find that straight dildos at certain lengths bump against the cervix uncomfortably. A downward or backward curve near the tip can redirect the tip away from the cervix in certain positions, allowing more comfortable deeper penetration. Less common as a design intent, but worth knowing if cervical sensitivity is a factor.

Straight Dildos: When They're Right

Straight dildos aren't wrong — they're the right choice when you want general penetrative sensation without specifically targeting the G-spot, when you want predictable depth without the tip drifting toward the anterior wall, or when using the toy in positions where your own body angle provides the necessary contact with the anterior wall.

Reading a Listing for Curve

Most listings don't provide the curve angle in degrees. Look for: "G-spot curve," "upward curve," "angled tip," or user reviews that describe where the tip points during use. Images from multiple angles help — look specifically at the shaft from the side to understand the curve direction and magnitude.
