Double Penetration Toys: Dildos, Plugs, and How to Choose

15 September 2025 · 8 min read

Double penetration (DP) toys provide vaginal and anal stimulation simultaneously — either through a single product designed for both, or through using two separate toys together. The category is large and varied, and it is one where size selection is particularly important because you are managing two simultaneous insertable dimensions rather than one.

The Options

Double-Headed Dildos (V-shaped / Y-shaped)

Some dildos have two separate insertable shafts on a shared base, one designed for vaginal insertion and one for anal. The anal shaft is typically shorter and narrower than the vaginal shaft.

The sizing challenge: With a dual-shaft toy, the two dimensions are fixed in relation to each other. If the vaginal shaft suits you but the anal shaft is too wide (or vice versa), you cannot adjust one independently. Dual-shaft toys also fix the angle between the two insertions, which may or may not match your anatomy.

Who it works for: Users who have some experience with both vaginal and anal play and have a sense of what dimensions work for each. First-timers in either category should establish their comfortable range separately before trying a dual toy.

Vibrators with Anal Arm

Some rabbit vibrators add an anal arm to the clitoral arm — a three-armed design (shaft, clitoral arm, anal arm). The anal arm is typically small in diameter and positioned based on an average anatomy.

The anatomy issue: These toys require the vaginal, clitoral, and anal stimulation points to align simultaneously with your specific anatomy. This is a strict requirement. The misalignment problem that rabbit vibrators already have with two stimulation points is amplified with three. Expect to try and adjust.

Harness + Plug

Using a strap-on harness with a dildo (vaginal) and inserting a plug separately (anal) is the most flexible DP setup. You control each dimension independently, use your preferred materials, and are not constrained by fixed geometry.

This approach requires two separate products but gives the best size-fit outcome. Most experienced DP users settle on this configuration.

Inflatable Plugs

A small anal plug that inflates after insertion offers adjustable anal diameter — you start small and increase once inserted. This approach handles the discomfort of anal entry at a large diameter by starting narrow. The inflatable mechanism adds complexity and potential maintenance compared to a solid plug, but it is a genuine solution to the "anal entry is harder than staying" problem.

Sizing for Dual Penetration

The sizing challenge for DP is that both openings are active simultaneously, and both are affected by the other. Vaginal tissue and anal tissue both share pelvic floor muscles, and tension in one area affects the other.

Practical rule: Choose dimensions for both that are below your maximum comfortable size when using each independently. Dimensions that are fine solo may be challenging when both are active simultaneously because of the shared muscular context. Start conservatively.

The anal component: If you are new to anal play, establishing comfort with anal plugs separately before adding the vaginal component is strongly recommended. Attempting DP as your introduction to anal play is a poor sequence — you will not be able to distinguish what is causing any discomfort.

Specific dimensions to look for:

Anal component: 2.5–3.5cm diameter is a reasonable range for most users with some anal experience. Less than 2.5cm tends to be insufficient sensation; more than 3.5cm requires established anal experience to use comfortably, especially simultaneously.

Vaginal component: at or below your solo comfortable range (see above).

Lube

More lube than you think you need, applied to both insertions. For the anal component especially, generous application before and during is essential. For extended sessions, have additional lube accessible and reapply to the anal component first — it dries faster due to the absence of natural lubrication.

Partner-Assisted DP

DP with a partner — one partner penetrating vaginally while the other provides anal stimulation, or one partner with a strap-on and plug — is more adjustable than solo DP because each partner can respond to feedback in real time. If the anal component is too much, it can be adjusted or removed; nothing is mechanically locked in.

Communication before and during is the key variable. The same sizing logic applies — start conservatively on the anal component.
